Bikram Choudhury
Creator/Founder
began learning Hatha Yoga poses in his native India at the age of three. At five, he began studying with Bishnu Gosh (Paramahnsa Yogananda's brother) and quickly became a yoga champion. At age 11, the was the youngest contestant ever to win the National India Yoga Competition. At 14, Swami Shivananda declared him "Yogi Raj" (King of the Yogis). At age 20, a weightlifting accident crippled Bikram. With the guidance of his Guru, Bikram created his 26 posture series that restored his health.
"Bikram or 'Hot' or 'Fire' yoga is a series of yoga poses done in a heated room, which is usually maintained at a temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 40 degrees Celsius). A vigorous yoga session at this temperature promotes profuse sweating, which is said to rid the body of toxins. It also makes the body very warm... and therefore more flexible."

Tony Brinks
Owner/Director
has been teaching Bikram Yoga since graduating in the Spring of 2006 at the Bikram Training Session in Los Angeles. Prior to becoming a teacher, Tony had been practicing Bikram Yoga for two years. Since graduating, Tony worked at several Bikram studios in the lower mainland so he could learn how to run a studio from various studio owners and also from all the different students he's had the pleasure to teach.
After a year of teaching full-time, he felt it was the right time in his life to bring Bikram Yoga to a new community where it was desperately needed. Together with his wife Randee, Tony opened the Bikram Yoga Abbotsford studio on October 13th, 2007 after a lengthy renovation on a 100 year old building in historic downtown Abbotsford. They had a very specific idea of how they wanted to run a studio drawing from their experiences teaching at wide variety of other studios.

Everyone of every fitness level is to feel welcome when they walk in the door. The response in the Fraser Valley has been more than they could have hoped for. The students here are a pleasure to teach and they make us proud every day.
Just over two years later, they opened a second studio in Garrison. Tony and Randee are always around the studios. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. See you in the hot room!
